This is a full-time position, starting on February 1st, 2012
Applications are invited for a one-year position within the project "The typology and corpus annotation of information structure and grammatical relations", coordinated by Amina Mettouchi and Martine Vanhove, within the Labex project Empirical Foundations of Linguistics.
This position involves interaction with field linguists working on various language families, in view of testing various annotations of information structure and grammatical relations in spoken corpora. The candidate will be expected to (a) work with each member of the project in order to identify the relevant structures encoded in the language, (b) implement the various coding solutions devised for each language on a corpus belonging to the members of the project, (c) synthesize the problems encountered and the solutions found for all the languages in the project. There is no software development involved. Details on the project can be found on:
http://web.me.com/aminamettouchi/ISGR_Labex_EFL/
The prerequisite for the position is a PhD in linguistics, on a topic involving lesser-described languages (including endangered languages, creoles, pidgins and mixed languages). The PhD thesis and the publications of the candidate should be proof of her/his competence in working on spoken data gathered during fieldwork, and their treatment in the form of electronic corpora (Toolbox, Elan, Praat or other). Competence in prosodic annotation is an asset, but is not required at the beginning of the project.
